tHE vALLEY OF aSHES
About half way between West Egg and New York the motor road hastily joins the railroad and run beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink away from certain desolate area of land. This is a valley of ashes- a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke, and finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air.
Ariel Edwards A color associated with this place is gray. One of the most obvious reasons is because of it being the color of smoke but another is that how people there are sad and have close to no hope. Its like they work but feel like it doesn't matter.

The Vally of Ashes could represent the working class, considering most of the people in East/West seem to be rich out of their minds but have no say of their work while those who we have met in the Valley of Ashes we can easily tell what they do for their job.
