It could mean a variety of ways: hope or looking into what the future may be or could relate into a mood like envy or sickness. E.F.

Green can represent the American Dream but can also be the corruption of it. Ex-working class, money-E.F.
The green lantern represents Gatsby's hopes and dreams for the future with Daisy. The green lantern is at the end of the dock which is the closest part of Gatsby's house to Daisy's house, as he reaches towards it at the end of Chapter 1, it symbolizes him reaching for a relationship with Daisy. H.H.
The light could also represent the hopelessness of Gatsby's dream. The light was clearly visible from his side of the bay, yet it was so far away. There were so many things in between him and his dream, that it seemed like just that; a dream. JR

Green can represent rebirth or renewal. Gatsby hopes to win Daisy back and start over with her. TT
